A poor but effective replacement for a missing drive chassis
I created these parts in order to align my (non-original) floppy drive with the opening on the front of my Quadra 650. This is a machine I'd gotten from Computer Reset. It was severely battery bombed and had been pilfered of all its useful parts. All I was left with was the logic board and the top & bottom case parts. Having already spent too much to acquire the PSU and CPU, I wasn't looking forward to spending even more to get a real drive chassis. The TinkerDifferent user phunguss kindly provided me with measurements from his/her Centris 650. They were very detailed and allowed me to create these parts.
The bottom parts are designed with dovetail joints and are meant to be lightly hammered together. This is then placed in the computer and screwed into the right-hand mounting point. Then glue is applied to the top of the left wall and the right-hand side of the top piece. The top piece is then placed on top of the bottom and screwed into the left-hand mounting point and pressed firmly against the right wall piece (being careful to keep it level).
The floppy drive sled model I'm providing is specific to my needs, but the thickness can be adjusted within FreeCAD by just adjusting the pad depth of the sketch. Everything else will remain aligned properly. One may need to move the mounting holes for the sides of the drive to suit his/her floppy drive.
I have created this project with the CERN Open Hardware License - Permissive so that anyone can take it and mess with it to suit his/her needs. It is an extremely niche project that may be of no use to anyone at all since most people should have the drive chassis, but I want the information to be out there.
