Urban Core and Settled Periphery

From a disaster management perspective, Kontur Urban Core and Kontur Settled Periphery are the layers indicating "where are the impacted people", and in case of rural area - "where are the most people". It helps to focus only on humanitarian impact of disaster, discarding unsettled area inside the event shape. Separate urban layer is useful for prioritization.

  • Kontur Urban Core is first layer with 0-68% of most dense population in polygon. It highlights most populated region affected.
  • Kontur Settled Periphery is second layer with exactly second part of 68-100% of population. It is complimentary to Kontur Urban Core and shows a spread-out part of the population in the region.
  • In sum the two give exactly outline of Kontur population and never overlap.
  • Exact numbers for total population under highlighted area can be viewed by clicking on "info" button near the layer label.
