Next to latex being fixed with this PR, this also makes everything work with python versions up to 3.14 and has now at least a pyproject.toml.

Hi @jpwgnr thanks for putting this together, and you're right having this in modern python using a wheel is much more up-to-date. One or two questions are left in the code
