Otherwise the project is not being built, neither by `meson build` nor by `meson install`.
If external project contains symlinks after internal `make install`, then those symlinks must be installed verbatim.

This fixes a few discrepancies in
an external_project module. In fact,
I don't even know how to use it w/o
setting build_by_default to True, as
this patch does.
