This was a stale duplicate of tvm.relax.frontend.nn.llm.position_embedding.

Verified removal is safe by:

  1. Searching for all imports from mlc_llm.op.position_embedding (none found)
  2. Testing that mlc_llm.op imports correctly after cleanup
  3. sanity checked by running python -m mlc_llm chat HF://mlc-ai/Qwen3-1.7B-q0f16-mlc --device cuda

This pull request focuses on code hygiene by eliminating a redundant and unused module. By removing the mlc_llm.op.position_embedding module, which was a duplicate of an existing component, the codebase is streamlined, reducing potential confusion and maintenance overhead. This change simplifies the project structure without impacting functionality, as verified by the author.

Highlights

  • Module Removal: The mlc_llm.op.position_embedding module has been completely removed from the codebase. This module was identified as a stale duplicate of tvm.relax.frontend.nn.llm.position_embedding.
  • Import Cleanup: The import statement for llama_rope from the now-removed position_embedding module was removed from mlc_llm.op/__init__.py, ensuring consistency and removing dead code references.

🧠 New Feature in Public Preview: You can now enable Memory to help Gemini Code Assist learn from your team's feedback. This makes future code reviews more consistent and personalized to your project's style. Click here to enable Memory in your admin console.

Code Review

This pull request removes the mlc_llm.op.position_embedding module, which has been identified as a stale duplicate of functionality existing in tvm.relax.frontend.nn.llm.position_embedding. The changes involve deleting the python/mlc_llm/op/position_embedding.py file and updating the __init__.py to remove the obsolete import. This is a good housekeeping change that removes unused code, improving the overall maintainability of the codebase. The author has confirmed that the removal is safe, and the changes look correct.
