Summary of Changes

Hello @Jintao-Huang, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request refactors the initialization process for Megatron within the megatron-swift module. It streamlines the environment setup by removing the dynamic installation of Megatron-LM and renames a key initialization function for better clarity, aligning with a direct usage of megatron-core.

Highlights

  • Function Renaming: The internal _patch_megatron function has been renamed to init_megatron_env to better reflect its purpose of initializing the Megatron environment.
  • Megatron-LM Installation Logic Removed: The code responsible for dynamically cloning and installing Megatron-LM from GitHub (specifically the core_r0.15.0 branch) has been removed. This suggests that megatron-core is now expected to be pre-installed or managed externally, simplifying the environment setup within this module.

🧠 New Feature in Public Preview: You can now enable Memory to help Gemini Code Assist learn from your team's feedback. This makes future code reviews more consistent and personalized to your project's style. Click here to enable Memory in your admin console.

Code Review

This pull request refactors the Megatron environment initialization. The function _patch_megatron is renamed to init_megatron_env, improving clarity and making it public. The old init_megatron_env function, which dynamically installed Megatron-LM, has been removed. This is a significant improvement, simplifying the setup by relying on a pre-installed megatron-core package, which is a better practice for dependency management. The changes are well-justified and improve the code structure. As a minor follow-up, some imports in swift/megatron/init.py have become unused due to this refactoring and could be removed in a subsequent change.
