I have copied over the relevant imod code to read heads data into xarray for a structured grid.
I was able to use the StructuredGrid from flopy, instead of the imod grid class.
It may well be possible to do this more efficient, but for now it seems to work. I could remove the
imoddependency again from pyproject.
