Make auto put the note on the side it is closest to

In 2 column mode, having the notes always on one side is quite problematic as it makes some notes span across the columns

This changes the behaviour of auto for the side positioning from just picking the largest margin to picking the margin which it is closest to

Not sure how you feel about breaking changes here, when I saw auto for the side, I figured this is what it would do, but I'm also open to having side: "closest"

Great idea and thanks for the PR! Since pages now have a columns field, perhaps we can only use this as a default in a multicolumn mode? This way it isn't a breaking change.

I'm wondering for later on -- some page templates have a very large margin for notes and a tiny one. I think a long line to get to a spacious margin may be preferable in that case.

Do you think in a future PR it's worth adding a heuristic/penalty that combines:

• Whether a column is crossed
• Whether a spacious margin is ignored
• Wether more than half the page is crossed
• etc.
