We will handle documenting bridged metrics differently than metrics created by instrumentation. Documenting metric bridges will be handled by a followup: #15333
I will likely need to re-add this assertion in the followup approach with some different handling on the processing side, but I am removing it entirely for now to get back to where we were in the meantime.
