As a past contributor (and therefore copyright holder), I can confirm that not all contributors were notified: I only became aware of this change at the beginning of this year.

I realize this decision was likely made above @jkschneider’s level, so no blame intended here. If I may share my perspective: while the move may be legally sound, it does little to encourage future contributions, and in fact risks motivating forks of the project.

For my part, I still plan to complete my currently open PR #202, since it’s just glue code to a library under Apache-2.0. However, this change makes it harder to stay motivated and to prioritize further contributions.
