Publishing Changes to Steam
I'm writing this page up mostly as a way to instruct how to publish map updates to the game on Steam, because there are a few things that will have to change whenever a new update comes out. As far as I'm aware, this system cares about version suffixes, so we'll need to change all of these for each map update.
The info for the map loading screens is stored in items_game.txt. To find the map entry you're looking for, either search for the map file name or one of the map's authors. (I have added a comment to each entry with all authors/contributors). Once you find it, change the version suffix to the version you're updating to.
In a similar process, find the menu_photos_<map file name>.vmt and change its version suffix as well. While it's bad form, you don't need to do the same for the VTF, since the VMT refers to the old VTF version name. Save yourself time and let developers a decade down the line wonder why the VTF for pass_arena2_rc7.vmt is 'pass_arena2_b14b.vtf.
