## Firmware Upgrade using Serial

If you are wish to program a Core with a custom firmware via USB Serial(Virtual Com Port), you'll need to use this mode. This mode triggers the Y-Modem protocol that accepts firmware binary files via any serial terminal program such as Tera Term.

Procedure:

1. Hold down Mode button for 3 seconds to enter [Listening Mode](/connect/#connecting-your-core-listening-mode)
2. Open a new Serial connection using standard settings.
3. Press **f** command to enter Firmware upgrade mode using Y-Modem protocol
4. Select File -> Transfer -> YMODEM -> Send...
5. Select the core-firmware.bin file to complete the Firmware Update process
