A map editor project I am working on that runs on Polarity Engine and provides a easy-to-use interface for making maps for DESOLATION. The DESOLATION repository currently has a mapEditor directory which works as a separate Love2D project which I used to create the first two maps, but if I am being honest, that is more of a "mapViewer" than an editor.
I've come to the conclusion that if I want to work more on DESOLATION, I have to focus on the campaign of the game. That means more maps have to be created following a proper story, and because of that, I need a good enough map editor in my possession to design the maps without having to modify a JSON file by hand.
Here is a simple roadmap I just thought of for this project:
- Main menu (load a map file, create a new one, perhaps shortcut for running the map in-game)
- Map viewing, simple controls, a tree showing the items, walls, props etc. in the map
- Lighting implementation(?), might not be added here for now
- Interface for changing attributes of objects, saving/loading, conversion to JSON and vice versa
- Other improvements to the mapEditor
- Build of the project and release
https://www.dafont.com/big-shot.font -> modify the "t", the bottom part is ugly. Might add turkish characters as well if I happen to switch from disposable droid, since that one is not royalty free.
