Fixing an annoying bug where the menu always spawned on the left hand side since i was defaulting to 0. Also hovering over any other icon was causing the menu to close, making it quite hard to use a menu without accidentally closing it.

#1228 should be a better fix for this issue. The popup should change when a different menu item is hovered

That behavior does not seem desirable to me. It's very frustrating to have to move your mouse in a perfectly vertical way to not avoid opening a different menu on your way to click something

There is a long (arguably too long) delay between when you hover another icon and when its menu pops up. You can test it on the applets (for example power, and network).

However that behavior is broken for the status-area icons. When you hover over another icon it immediately closes the menu and doesn't open the menu for the icon your hovering over. Which is a bug.

And that's not fixed in @wash2 's PR either.

I'll make a separate PR to add a delay that matches the panel, which should allow disabling it through the config as well. This variable isn't currently shared with the applets, but could be. I'd just prefer not to remove functionality.
