The mysterious doctests failure has also been noted on #134.
From this, I'm guesssing it is not just inscrutable but actually intermittent, since it did not fail on current main (!)
In #134 it is fixed by (re-)introducing a safe ncdump utility routine : e.g. here and in this commit
