Things are working again after the big refactor post-0.8.0
Good time for a release!

v0.8.0 checkpoint

Usually it is best to just pull latest main. However, since I'm about to start messing around, here's a "known, mostly good" release.

It still has improvements that need to be done: hence why this is not a "v1.0" release.
