…t `patch = subprocess` or similar in their coverage config to get equivalent behavior. Minium required coverage is set the current patch release to avoid unexpected and untested problems. Also cleanup some old tests and support code.
… it would behave differently depending on the number of xdist nodes.

This should sort out most of the issues that will pop up when enabling coverage patches.
