And reduce a bit the implementation.
I think the metaprogramming version was not better.
For unsilenced exceptions, this was calling the `silent_on_thread_error_for` replacement because it was being assigned before calling it.
Add it to the tests for all Rubies

This is a mix of style changes, minor fixes in tests and some simplifications after the last few PRs merged.
