Head over to the Chrome Store page and add the extension

Once installed, the settings panel will open.

Make sure you have an API Key: see here

Now enter your API Key

If you are using AdBlock, please disable it on the google search results page

Now when you do a search on Google you will see the Search Companion show up on the right side
