SerpApi Vision is a lightweight macOS menu bar utility designed to reduce eyestrain by disabling GPU-level temporal dithering on Apple Silicon Macs (M1/M2/M3).
Many users are sensitive to Temporal Dithering (FRC), a technique where pixels flicker between colors at high frequencies to simulate a wider color gamut. This can cause significant eyestrain, headaches, and fatigue for sensitive individuals.
SerpApi Vision allows you to disable this temporal dithering at the GPU/DCP (Display Controller Pipeline) level, providing a more stable image with minimal impact on perceived quality. You will need to switch to sRGB color space in System Settings to fully disable dithering. Click on display setting from the menu bar to do so.
- One-Click Toggle: Easily enable or disable dithering from the menu bar.
- Built-in Visual Tests: Verify dithering status with fine gradient and temporal checkerboard patterns.
- System Check: Run real-time
ioregcommands to confirm hardware status. - Launch at Login: Ensure dithering remains disabled across restarts.
- Hardware: Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3 family).
- Software: macOS 13.0 or later.
- Download the latest version from Releases.
- Unzip and move
SerpApi Vision.appto your/Applicationsfolder. - Launch the app and select Launch at Login for persistent protection.
To verify that dithering is disabled, you can use the built-in Visual Dithering Test or run the following command in Terminal:
ioreg -lw0 | grep -i enableDitherYou should see "enableDither" = No for your active displays.
- TCON Dithering: While this app disables GPU-level dithering, some high-end Apple XDR displays use internal Timing Controllers (TCON) that may still apply dithering.
- Recommended Settings: For the best results on XDR displays, switch to the sRGB color space in System Settings.
