`MAPETH0:1`
`MGMT_INTF:eth0`

### Arista forwarding agent
While CloudEOS has a DPDK dataplane, cEOS-lab and vEOS-lab use their own software dataplane.

Two versions of the forwarding agent exist. `Arfa` (**AR** ista **F** orwarding **A** gent) is the new forwarding agent, that is supposed to be faster and more scalable. It has nearly reached feature parity with the older `python` forwarding agent and even has some features that do not exist in the older agent.
`python` is the legacy mode, which supports some features `Arfa` does not support.

Starting with `EOS-4.30.1F`, cEOS-lab and vEOS-lab use `Arfa` by default if not configured otherwise.

You can manually switch between the two forwarding agents using
```
platform tfa
personality python
personality arfa
```
or via the magic file `/mnt/flash/ceos-config`.

For `python`, use
```title="/mnt/flash/ceos-config"
TFA_VERSION=1
```
For `Arfa`, use
```title="/mnt/flash/ceos-config"
TFA_VERSION=2
```

The environment variable `ETBA` is not properly documented by Arista, but apparently it is necessary for correct operation.

The following features are not supported in `Arfa` mode:

- Multicast
- FlexEncap
- Q-in-Q subinterface encapsulation
- Pseudowire dual tagging

The following features are not supported in `python` mode:

- PBR
- VRF Selection Policy
- Sflow Egress interface

### Interface mode
In release `EOS-4.34.1F` the interface mode configuration was added. It introduces the `relay mode`.
The following features require relay mode to be enabled:

- CFM Alarm Indication
- Dot1x MBA
- Inband Telemetry
- PTP
- sFlow

Interface mode can be configured using
```
platform tfa
interface mode relaying
interface mode default
```

It is not documented which other advantages or disadvantages relay mode has compared to default mode.

### File mounts

When a user starts a lab, containerlab creates a node directory for storing [configuration artifacts](../conf-artifacts.md). For `-{{ kind_code_name }}-` kind containerlab creates `flash` directory for each ceos node and mounts these folders by `/mnt/flash` paths.
