Description

This PR fixes issue #1878 by implementing a comprehensive Windows compatibility layer that handles EOF errors and prevents application crashes on Windows systems.

Problem

Windows users were experiencing crashes with Error: write EOF when starting the development server. This error occurs due to differences in how Windows handles process streams, pipes, and signals compared to Unix systems.

Root Causes

  1. Process stream handling: Windows handles stdin/stdout/stderr differently
  2. Git command execution: Git commands can fail with EOF on Windows
  3. Signal handling: Windows doesn't support all Unix signals
  4. Pipe behavior: Windows pipes behave differently, especially with TTY

Solution

Implemented a multi-layered approach to handle Windows-specific issues:

1. Windows Compatibility Module (scripts/windows-compat.js)

  • EOF Error Recovery: Catches and recovers from EOF errors without crashing
  • Process Signal Handling: Properly handles SIGINT/SIGTERM on Windows
  • Stdin Configuration: Sets up stdin to prevent pipe errors
  • Child Process Management: Spawns processes with Windows-compatible options

2. Enhanced Pre-start Script

  • Safe Git Operations: Uses Windows-safe stdio options for git commands
  • Error Fallbacks: Gracefully handles git command failures
  • EOF Detection: Specifically detects and handles EOF errors

3. Dedicated Windows Dev Script (scripts/dev-windows.js)

  • Sequential Execution: Runs pre-start and dev server sequentially
  • Error Recovery: Continues operation even after EOF errors
  • Signal Forwarding: Properly forwards termination signals

4. Windows Environment Configuration (.env.windows)

  • Terminal Settings: Forces color output on Windows
  • Node Options: Configures Node.js for Windows compatibility
  • Git Settings: Prevents interactive prompts that cause EOF

Changes Made

Files Created

  • scripts/windows-compat.js - Core Windows compatibility utilities
  • scripts/dev-windows.js - Windows-specific development server runner
  • .env.windows - Windows environment configuration

Files Modified

  • pre-start.cjs - Added Windows compatibility initialization
  • package.json - Updated dev script to use Windows-compatible runner

Testing

  • Tested on Windows 11 with Node.js 18.x and 20.x
  • Verified EOF errors are caught and handled gracefully
  • Confirmed development server starts without crashes
  • Tested graceful shutdown with Ctrl+C
  • Validated git operations work correctly

Impact

  • Windows Users: Can now run the development server without crashes
  • Unix Users: No impact - compatibility layer only activates on Windows
  • Backward Compatibility: Original dev script available as dev:legacy

Screenshots

N/A - System-level fix

Breaking Changes

None - The fix is backward compatible and only affects Windows systems.

2. Provides detailed console logging for debugging
3. Properly tracks and persists file save state
4. Does not interfere with code editor visibility
…mentation

REMOVED:
- All Save All UI buttons from header
- Auto-save settings from header
- FileStatusIndicator from status bar
- All visual UI components that were disrupting the core interface

ADDED:
- Minimal keyboard-only implementation (Ctrl+Shift+S)
- Toast notifications for save feedback
- Zero UI footprint - no visual disruption

The Save All feature is now completely invisible and does not interfere with Code, Diff, or Preview views. It only exists as a keyboard shortcut with toast notifications.

This ensures the core system functionality is never compromised by secondary features.

Fixes stackblitz-labs#1881 - Ollama provider not appearing in UI despite correct configuration

Problem:
- Local providers (Ollama, LMStudio, OpenAILike) were disabled by default
- No mechanism to detect environment-configured providers
- Users had to manually enable Ollama even when properly configured

Solution:
- Server detects environment-configured providers and reports to client
- Client auto-enables configured providers on first load
- Preserves user preferences if manually configured

Changes:
- Modified _index.tsx loader to detect configured providers
- Extended api.models.ts to include configuredProviders in response
- Added auto-enable logic in Index component
- Cleaned up provider initialization in settings store

This ensures zero-configuration experience for Ollama users while
respecting manual configuration choices.
