Translation Guidelines

Before we begin

Thank you for helping out with translating card/skill/event/etc. titles on the All Stars site.

For privacy reasons, the system only stores the minimum amount of information required to make translations work. This includes the translated phrase itself, as well as the date and some data for identifying spam. None of the stored information can be used to identify individual translators.

Translation guidelines

In general, translations should attempt to provide understanding over literal meaning. It's more important that the phrase makes sense in the target language than it is to be one-to-one with the original counterpart. It's also OK to move parts of phrases around if it sounds better in the target language.

More specific tips:

• Titles should always be title cased, e.g. "A Place That Calms the Heart" over "A place that calms the heart"
• Phrases might not make sense due to requiring context from somewhere else. Try looking for clues from the card art and associated event stories.
• Some skill titles are meant to be spoken phrases. Try looking for cues like …, !, ?, --.
• If it's spoken phrase, use normal casing. Otherwise, title case it.
• For spoken phrases, consider the character. Yukina might speak more "coolly" than Himari, for example.
• Sometimes you'll need to make up your own grammar for sentence fragments.

For secondary translations (i.e. EN to FR), please check your translation against the source text if you can. Some meaning will probably be lost going from the source language -> EN, and you'll probably lose even more going from EN -> another language.

Known system issues:

• Generic skill titles (e.g. "Appeal+: Same Type") aren't properly deduplicated currently (i.e. cards with the same title won't share a translation). For now, feel free to skip over them since the description provides the same information.

Notes:

• News post titles and content cannot be translated. This is intentional.
