The change

Add a power saving option to stop gif/video/video message preview.

The new "Autoplay media" option allows to disable media files preview in the chat history view.

Discussion

  • Do we need more configuration options, e.g., per media type (round video message, video, gif)?
  • Should the setting name be more detailed (e.g., list the media types)?

The new "Autoplay media" option allows to disable media files preview in
the chat history view.

This option already exists in Advanced -> Automatic media download

@ilya-fedin, they're not quite the same. Once a media is downloaded (whether automatically or manually), the preview will keep playing in the chat history, regardless of the automatic download setting, spending battery power and distracting me from the chat. The new setting allows to control that.

I can't reproduce. Even if a media is downloaded, it doesn't autoplay. I have to click play. If I close and reopen the chat, it stops again.

You're right, my bad. I thought you meant the automatic download settings.

I must say, though, the "Automatic media download" section is a pretty counter-intuitive location for this option.
