Pi5 running CompanionPi shows black screen with flashing cursor post Dashboard install #67

Hi Tom. The Dashboard works very well on one of my lab Windows PC's. On my pi units, 1 x Pi4B and 1 x Pi5, I've had mixed results. Can you please help?

On the Pi4B, I was able to install v1.4.2 on top of CompanionPi and was able to access the Dashboard both via the attached display, with the dashboard appearing in full screen after the post-install reboot, as expected, and via a web browser on another unit on the same network. I was able to get creative and make a dash but as I'd rather have the greater resources and increased speed of the 5, especially when running a greater load, I moved over to that unit.

On the Pi5, I'm having trouble getting v1.4.3 going. I've twice tried to install it to SD cards freshly imaged with the latest version of CompanionPi. Post installation, both times, the full screen dashboard does not launch on the attached display, which gets to a point where it looks like Dashboard is going to start up but the screen shows only black with the white cursor flashing in the top left corner - it almost looks hung, save for the flashing part. (I'd send a photo but it's a very reflective touchscreen so it turns into a self-portrait.) I also cannot reach the server via the unit's IP address (http://192.168.1.17:80 or http://192.168.1.17:80/control - in both cases, the browser returns "this site can't be reached".

My installation steps are:
1 - write the latest CompanionPi image (companion-pi-stable-v4.2.2-28-12-25.img.xz) to a 64GB micro SD card.
2 - insert micro SD card into Pi5.
3 - boot up and complete first boot settings.
4 - in raspi-config, expand filesystem to use full card, enable ssh, set locale, time zone, and wireless region & reboot.
5 - prior to installing Companion Dashboard, run sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade to ensure that all dependencies are current, and then reboot.
7 - install Companion Dashboard via ssh with "curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tomhillmeyer/companion-dashboard/main/install.sh | bash".
8 - once install is complete, reboot.
9 - on the attached monitor, watch the usual startup processes fly by. I see the usual username prompt for a brief moment and then it looks like Dashboard is trying to start but gets stuck. ***Note that Companion seems to run just fine regardless.

What do you think might be happening?

Thanks for your time,

Andrew
