Project Abstract

This proposal is a follow-up application of #1907 for Dedot (formerly DelightfulDOT), which was successfully delivered.

With this follow-up proposal, we intend to continue building on the foundations of Dedot by further refining its features and future-proofing it against forthcoming network developments. Our goal is to make the library more resilient, easy to integrate, and flexible, we believe Dedot will continue serving as a high-quality, go-to solution for JavaScript and TypeScript developers in the Polkadot ecosystem.

Grant level

  • Level 1: Up to $10,000, 2 approvals
  • Level 2: Up to $30,000, 3 approvals
  • Level 3: Unlimited, 5 approvals (for >$100k: Web3 Foundation Council approval)

Application Checklist

  • The application template has been copied and aptly renamed (project_name.md).
  • I have read the application guidelines.
  • Payment details have been provided (Polkadot AssetHub (USDC & DOT) address in the application and bank details via email, if applicable).
  • I understand that an agreed upon percentage of each milestone will be paid in vested DOT, to the Polkadot address listed in the application.
  • I am aware that, in order to receive a grant, I (and the entity I represent) have to successfully complete a KYC/KYB check.
  • The software delivered for this grant will be released under an open-source license specified in the application.
  • The initial PR contains only one commit (squash and force-push if needed).
  • The grant will only be announced once the first milestone has been accepted (see the announcement guidelines).
  • I prefer the discussion of this application to take place in a private Element/Matrix channel. My username is: @_______:matrix.org (change the homeserver if you use a different one)

Hi @sinzii Dedot is a great product and no doubt you all are doing excellent work on that front. But is there any reason this can't be funded by the treasury or the Open Source Developer Grants bounty at this point?

Hi @keeganquigley,

We actually attempted to go through the treasury route previously, but the proposal didn’t succeed. The feedback we received at the time pointed to concerns around our team being relatively new, a lack of visible traction, and the perceived high hourly rates.

We’ve taken that feedback seriously and have been continuously building and growing our presence in the ecosystem. We do plan to revisit the treasury in the future, once we’ve gained more traction and a stronger track record.

While we remain open to other funding paths, we believe the W3F Grants Program is the most suitable option for us at this stage. Its milestone-based structure provides a clear and accountable framework to continue developing Dedot and contributing to the ecosystem.

We truly appreciate your consideration and are happy to discuss further if you have any concerns or feedback. In the end, we fully respect your final decision here. Thank you for your time and support.

@sinzii, I don't see an application to the Open Source Developer Bounty. I think it might be a good fit and the application process is quite similar.

@semuelle @keeganquigley Thanks a lot for the suggestions!

If the Open Source Developer Bounty might be a good fit for Dedot, I'll close this for now and submit the application there.
