Project Abstract

PolkaSpell is a modular, on-chain learning and developer storytelling platform built to educate and inspire builders in the Polkadot ecosystem. Through bite-sized courses, monthly developer magazines (PolkaDev Pulse), and podcast episodes (PolkaTales), PolkaSpell makes Polkadot's complex architecture, from Substrate and ink! to XCM, engaging and accessible. With Soulbound Tokens (SBTs) as proof of progress, it combines education, real-world validation, and community storytelling to onboard, empower, and recognize developers building the multichain future of Polkadot.

Grant level

  • Level 2: Up to $30,000, 3 approvals
  • Level 3: Unlimited, 5 approvals (for >$100k: Web3 Foundation Council approval)

Hey @rythmern02 ,
thanks for the application. I'll share it with the team and will get back to you with questions and feedback.

Historically, educational initiatives haven't been a focus of this grants program, but since your initiative includes building a platform, it might qualify. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @rythmern02 this is a very well-written proposal but unfortunately I have to agree with my colleague @PieWol that we don't typically fund purely educational materials through the W3F grants program. I also think that some of this work overlaps with what some other teams are doing, i.e. Papermoon, and that a platform/suite like this would need to be well-coordinated with other ecosystem participants. Therefore I vote no for now but am willing to reconsider should we see a strong need for this.

Thanks a lot for the application. We discussed it again internally and decided that it doesn't fit our program. We mostly focus on open source software development and research as part of our grants program and don't support things like podcast. Therefore, I'm closing the application.
