@bradamiller I just completed reviewing the Hour (3 hours ) of Code https://youtu.be/W3hX-cEsVwM?t=344 video put up on youtube. I went and looked for the follow up to why the Romi code failed. Was it at the start of the new program creation when choosing Command based robot vs a Romi Command Based Robot? This is definitely a system I want to dive deeper into and use as a teaching tool.

Hi @cpapplefamily, currently Brad and I aren't sure exactly why our method didn't work. We have not been able to reproduce the bug when using a Romi Command Based Robot project, which was updated since Hour of Code. It was lacking the features that I personally desired at the time so I figured I'd use a different kind of project. Clearly this was a mistake. Still investigating why this happened, and we'll get back to you when we find out more.

For my own education. What is the difference between the Romi Command Based Robot project and a Normal Command Based Robot project? Is is just the Build.Gradle comments?

It’s small changes in the build.gradle file (mainly around adding in the appropriate sim extensions and some environment variables) as well as the inclusion of the RomiDrivetrain subsystem (which provides the appropriate PWM and Encoder channels to use for the motors)

IT was a great session and both Brad and Grant were awesome.
I would like to address the problem that Grant and Brad had during the hour of code presentation:

1. Grant had just finished the Forward.java command and attempted to run the code. Although it compile, when he selected the run the Forward command, nothing happened. The reason was:
2. In the Forward command in the execute() Method:
3. chassis.drive(0.15, 0).
4. 0.15 was being squared which resulted in 1.5 X 1.5 = 0.022
5. inputs smaller than 0.02 is considered deadband and truncated to 0; therefore the Romi was coded to move forward at zero speed and thus did not move.
6. I changed the code to 0.5 which resulted in a speed of 0.25 and the Romi moved forward as expected.
