Bafoeg-manager helps students handle their BAföG paperwork. It organizes your documents and data in one place. The software includes an artificial intelligence assistant to help you fill out forms. The assistant uses a local model called Ministral 14B to process your requests on your computer. This keeps your data private on your own device. The app tracks your status and checks your submission progress. It currently assists with application preparation and draft management.
You need a computer running Windows 10 or Windows 11. Your system should have at least 8GB of RAM. The AI features require a modern processor. We recommend an SSD with at least 5GB of free disk space for the program and the AI model files. You do not need to install extra database software or programming tools.
Follow these steps to set up the software.
- Visit the releases page.
- Look for the latest version at the top of the list.
- Click the file ending in .exe to start the download.
- Save the file to your desktop or downloads folder.
- Double-click the file to begin the installation.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Click Finish to launch the application.
The AI assistant helps you write your application letters. You provide the information, and the software generates the text. Select the AI tab in the main menu to start. Choose your specific BAföG task from the drop-down list. Type your questions into the text box. The software processes your words and gives you an answer. This tool writes drafts and proofreads your finished documents. It understands complex rules about student funding in Germany.
The software stores your files locally. No information travels to external servers without your permission. Create a folder on your computer for your BAföG documents. Use the settings menu to point the software to this folder. The app detects your files and organizes them by deadline and type. You can attach PDFs or image scans of your certificates and rental contracts. The dashboard shows a list of missing documents. It alerts you when a deadline approaches.
You can change how the software behaves in the settings menu. You can adjust the AI speed if your computer feels slow. You can also change the file storage path or reset the local database. If you have trouble with the AI model, use the clear cache button. This removes loaded model files and downloads them again upon the next restart. Check for updates automatically to always have the latest improvements for your student aid management.
The software is under active development. Current features focus on application management and text generation. Future versions will include tools for calculating repayment plans and a dedicated "BAföG Bot" for real-time document analysis. We update the software often to match changes in German law. Do I need an internet connection to use the AI? You need an internet connection only for the initial download of the AI model. After that, the software works offline.
Does the software collect my personal data? No. All data stays on your local hard drive. We do not access your files.
Can I open my files on another computer? Yes. Copy your BAföG folder to a USB drive or move it to your new computer. Point the software to that folder on the new device, and your data appears automatically.
What happens if the installation stops? Check that your antivirus software is not blocking the installation. The software is safe to run on Windows systems. Ensure you have enough disk space before you start.
How do I remove the software? Use the standard Windows uninstall feature found in your system settings. Select bafoeg-manager from the list and click uninstall. This removes the files from your machine.
Open a new issue on the GitHub repository if you find a bug. Describe the problem clearly and tell us which version of Windows you use. Include steps to reproduce the error so we can fix it. Please do not share sensitive personal data in your issue reports. Keep your personal details private at all times.
