PennyScribe v1.0

First public release of PennyScribe, a native macOS app for meeting transcription and summarization. Why "Penny"Scribe? Because while the app is free, the transcription is done by OpenAI's gpt-4o-transcribe-diarize model, which isn't free, but only costs a few pennies.

Highlights

  • Record microphone audio plus Mac system audio, including Zoom/system audio.
  • Import existing audio/video files for transcription.
  • Store multiple OpenAI API keys securely in macOS Keychain.
  • Transcribe with gpt-4o-transcribe-diarize using chunking_strategy=auto.
  • Summarize with GPT-5.4-mini, GPT-5.4, or GPT-5.5 from the app.
  • Save timestamped local recordings, transcripts, and summaries under ~/Documents/PennyScribe Recordings/.
  • Signed, notarized, and stapled macOS DMG installer.

Install

Download PennyScribe-macOS.dmg, open it, and drag PennyScribe.app to Applications.

Verification

SHA-256 is included in PennyScribe-macOS.dmg.sha256.
