NOTE: This emulator is only fully supported at this point in the context of Archipelago and Crowd Control. Whilst we're aiming to support it for the main randomizer, it is not quite at that stage yet.

This article covers how to run the 4.0 version of Project64 for DK64 Randomizer, which is a popular N64 emulator for Windows.

Setup

Project 64 4.0 introduces some important functionality with connecting your game to an external server, which is useful in the context of Archipelago and Crowd Control. Additionally, PJ64 4.0 removes the requirement to modify the RDB file that was necessitated in earlier versions of the emulator.

Crowd Control includes an specific version of Project64 4.0 which includes their connection scripts. As such, if you're aiming to play Crowd Control, use the version they provide.

Troubleshooting

Jittery Camera

Make sure Emulate frame buffer is on in Options > Graphics Settings > Frame buffer

My kong's eyes are gone

Visit Options > Graphics Settings > Emulation, and then uncheck Enable N64-style mip-mapping
