Summary

Mods "Isolation Protocol: Add Balthazar as a Nethack style deity"

Purpose of change

Add a function simmilar to "peity" you can accumulate during gameplay and then exchange for increased chances of survival. Because this is a sci-fi, and because it somewhat fits with vanilla lore, the deity in question is Balthazar, who rewards your limited acts of violence with much grandiose acts of violence.

You are basically made for each other, how cute.

Describe the solution

Planned features for Balthazar:

  • Kill everything in the bubble.
  • Kill the single highest danger target around you.
  • Kill bossfights so long as you survive for enough time.
  • Grant you an energy shield.
  • A combat speed buff/Limited pain invulnerability.
  • Revive you on death.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Other 'gods' could be possible, although I dont have much interest on that.

Testing

Still wip. Just dialogue for now.

Additional context

Its funny to write balthazar in this way.

This alert is automatically generated. You can simply disregard if this is inaccurate, or (optionally) you can also add the new words to tools/spell_checker/dictionary.txt so they will not trigger an alert next time.

Hints for adding a new word to the dictionary
  • If the word is normally in all lowercase, such as the noun word or the verb does, add it in its lower-case form; if the word is a proper noun, such as the surname George, add it in its initial-caps form; if the word is an acronym or has special letter case, such as the acronym CDDA or the unit mW, add it by preserving the case of all the letters. A word in the dictionary will also match its initial-caps form (if the word is in all lowercase) and all-uppercase form, so a word should be added to the dictionary in its normal letter case even if used in a different letter case in a sentence.
  • For a word to be added to the dictionary, it should either be a real, properly-spelled modern American English word, a foreign loan word (including romanized foreign names), or a foreign or made-up word that is used consistently and commonly enough in the game. Intentional misspelling (including eye dialect) of a word should not be added unless it has become a common terminology in the game, because while someone may have a legitimate use for it, another person may spell it that way accidentally.

If other "deities" are planned for, maybe a gimmick for Balthazar could be related to how he switches between cold efficiency and bloodlust. As you use combat-focused abilities more, Balthazar grows more unstable (maybe an explanation is the instability leaking into it as you use it more?), eventually leading to either death, or a more unique effect (maybe something to change your playstyle, like getting buffs but needing to constantly kill enemies or suffer debuffs for example)

And to avoid this, needing to do a side-task or something to reduce the counter. OR letting the player use abilities before the cooldown is fully up, at the cost of incrementing the counter, and only reducing it when the cooldown is fully over.

The closer you are to the "Event Horizon", the more malicious Balthazar sounds. Idk just throwing ideas at the wall.
