Use Faster with Steam

OverlordZorn edited this page Apr 14, 2025 · 7 revisions

Do you wish to use Faster on your gaming PC to run a dedicated server and have steam manage your mods?

This is the wiki page for you!

But first, a few notes and caveats:

Caution

While possible, Faster is not made for this usecase! Mistakes can cause a variety of wild issues, including the loss of your mod folder and worse!

Important

Most people active in the Faster Community do not use faster that way and there cannot recommend using faster this way and that’s why there is a lack in documentation.

  • faster creates symlinks from the faster selected modstage folder to the arma3(server).exe folder
  • Steam does it somewhat similar, but not exactly.

Keeping these points in mind, here are the basic steps to achieve said goal - at your own risk.

  1. its recommended to least work with a separate install of the arma3server files through faster.
  • faster does handle some things different then Steam/Arma3 itself does. (serverprofile paths and whatnot).
  • Install arma server through faster to seperate location, like D:\serverArma
  1. identify the steam workshop folder for the arma mods and define that as your local mods within faster.

How to add Steam Workshop Mods as Local Mods to Faster

1. Under MAIN (top left) > select Mods

2. In the mod window > select Add Local Mod

image

3. In the browser window that opens > navigate to your Steam ARMA3 installation folder

Note

When using a custom directory for arma mods (defined through the arma 3 launcher) you have to take that directory and potentially skip step 3 and 4.

4. Once there > add !Workshop to the location in the address bar and press enter

image

5. You should now be looking at a folder full of linked folders with mod names

image

6. In the bottom right > click Select folder

7. FASTER should now take a few moments to import all Steam workshop mods as local mods

Note

Faster creates a custom ID for Local Mods to replace the Steam Workshop ID.
