Companion Device Setup
- The companion device serves as a automatic backup of the primary device.
- The companion device is a clone of the primary device and is fully functional and can be used in every way like the primary device.
Changes or additons made to each device are queued. Updates to the primary or companion device are securely updated on the other device every few minutes. When the devices are on different networks, changes and additions are queued until both devices are again on the same network. Updates to either device will be reflected on the other.
Steps:
- Enable the server on both devices. Select Server, toggle the button to On. Each device should show status ONLINE.
- On either device, select Settings, Select Pairing Mode. Note the IP address.
- On the oppisite device, select Settings, Companion Device IP Address and enter the IP address and port number.
- To initialize the other device as a clone of the first device, select Backup/restore, Backup to LAN.
Backup to LAN will wipe the companion device and replace it with a mirror copy of the primary device.
Example IP address with port number:
10.0.1.3:8003
To update a address, backspace over the old address and enter a new address.
To see the status of your companion device, go to Settings and the section for companion device. It will display the time and date of the most recent outgoing and incoming updates.
- Incoming updates are updates made on the companion device that have been copied to the primary device
- Outgoing updates are updates made on the primary device that have been copied to the companion device
a. Only one device needs to be in pairing mode.
- The companion device must periodically be on the same WiFi network as the primary device. When the companion device and primary device are on different networks, any updates or additions made will be queued for later when the devices are on the same network.
- Updates to the same contact on both devices can result in loss of data. The most recent update will override earlier updates.
- During the pairing process a countdown timer starts from 5:00 minutes. The security token used in the header is disabled while the security token is exchanged.
- Currently pairing is symmetrical, two devices pair with each other. It is not possible to pair a third device.
