Narrative Structure

In the year 1999. The television has adapted to the violence nature of men. The most popular format of television is still the contest shows program.

In particular a program dominates de audience ratings. Is Smash TV, the most violent contest of all the times. 2 lucky contestants compete for money and prizes. Each of them is equipped with a variety of powerful weapons and sent to an enclosed arena. The action takes place in front of the public in the studio and is broadcast live via satellite around the world.

Analysis of each level

The difficulty of this game is based on the number of enemies to deal with at the same time. Although most enemies only take 1 hit to destroy, the problem is the number and their speed. It's easy to get cornered, leading to the player's death. The boss has a different difficulty, it is based on the number of projectiles it throw's at you, and his high hp.

You can find multiple items with different uses: you can take money, treasures and gifts to earn points, lifes to ensure your survivavility. In the rooms there can appear some boost that make your weapon stronger, gives you some protection or even speed. The rarest item you can find is the key, which you can use at the end of the game to access a bonus level to collect more treasures and points. You can find 3 defensive items: the blades, that give the player five blades around them (these will fly off after a few hits) which will kill enemies on touch. The force field gives the player invulnerability, this is represented with a green aura, which turn red seconds before disapearing. Finally, the smart bomb will kill all enemies besides mines remaining in the room.

In the first level the player can find 5 enemies. The 2 most basic are the green and purple NPC, you can find these in every normal rooms, except from the first one, which will only have green enemies. These run towards you trying to hit you with his baseball bat, they sometimes try to dodge your shots too. The only difference between them is the velocity, which is higher in the purple NPC's. The mine is a static enemy that only explodes if the player stands on it, the second static enemy is the turret boy, who will stay in the wall shooting the player (this enemy can resist some shots). There are also other enemies, which are the red fat boy and the tank, these can resist more than the others. The red fat boy will just walk in the room and after a while he will explode. The tank will move freely in the room, and will fire volleys of five bullets at a time instead.

The player can collect 5 different types of weapons appart from main one. The grenade launcher is a weapon of short range, but will deal lots of damage. The spreader gives to the player a multi-angle shot, this weapon shoots 3 bullets in a cone shape, which makes it so useful against multiple enemies. Rockets are the most powerful weapon in the game, destroying any enemy with 1 shot, except bosses. The grenade lobber appears in boss rooms only. It has about the same stopping power as Rockets, but it lobs in the air about 50 to 60 percent of the way across the screen before landing. Finally, the orb will orbit the player as a second hand gun, rotating around the player and shooting like him, it will disappear whenever collides with an enemy.

Player mechanics:

The player has some mechanics. The most 2 important mechanics are the movement and shooting around you to kill the enemies. Another mechanic that we found is that the player needs to take the gifts from the ground and the boost to upgrade your weapon for a short time.

Controls

For this version of the game, we adapted the SNES controls to own version, the player can move with the typical 4 keys: W A S D. The player can shoot using the 4 keys arrow. The button Select we use the intro, and the last button is the Start and for this we just used the key Space because it has a comfortable key that you can use in game to pause this. In the version of SNES, the controller has 2 more buttons, but they were not binded to any action, for this reason we don’t put any key for these controls.
