A tutorial (like: programming for dummies) can be found on the SystemCD of the Board. Downloading the CD from http://www.terasic.com/downloads/cd-rom/de0-nano-soc/. There is a folder called 'Manual', there is the 'DE0-Nano-SoC_User_manual.pdf'. Starting on page 69, there is a step-by-step tutorial howto generate programming files for the EPCS128.
There is a also a configuration file for the 'Convert Programming Files' called 'Generate_Garfield_EPCS_Files.cof' in the root folder of the FPGA Design which can be loaded to do the job with proper set settings.
The programming process will take a little time because there must be first laoded a special image to the FPGA, which allows us to write to the flash device.
When you want to download application code to the NIOS2, there could be a system timestampe error. This is not a problem, just take care of expected SYSID = loaded SYSID!
Under QSYS -> Tools -> Options there must be the two enties to the following folders under /FPGA_Design
- ip_intern
- ip_extern
It should look like in the screenshot:
