Handle #17 before merging of closing this PR.

Options for this PR:

1. Merge main into this branch and address merge conflicts. Then complete PR by merging into main and click the delete branch button.
2. Close PR, and optionally tag commit for future use (possibly not necessary if merged and tagged for [MAYBE MERGE] Dev/revision submission #17). Delete the branch with git push origin --delete dev/turcan_research.
3. Create a new branch off main (or rebase if you are brave enough) and cherry pick important changes to keep to that new branch. Then close this PR, delete the branch, and PR that branch into main.
