Project Abstract

Please replace these instructions with a brief description of your project summarising key points (1-2 paragraphs).

If your application is a follow-up to a previous grant, please mention which one in the first line of the abstract and include a link to previous pull requests if applicable.

Grant level

  • Level 1: Up to $10,000, 2 approvals
  • Level 2: Up to $30,000, 3 approvals
  • Level 3: Unlimited, 5 approvals (for >$100k: Web3 Foundation Council approval)

Application Checklist

  • The application template has been copied and aptly renamed (project_name.md).
  • I have read the application guidelines.
  • Payment details have been provided (Polkadot AssetHub (USDC & DOT) address in the application and bank details via email, if applicable).
  • I understand that an agreed upon percentage of each milestone will be paid in vested DOT, to the Polkadot address listed in the application.
  • I am aware that, in order to receive a grant, I (and the entity I represent) have to successfully complete a KYC/KYB check.
  • The software delivered for this grant will be released under an open-source license specified in the application.
  • The initial PR contains only one commit (squash and force-push if needed).
  • The grant will only be announced once the first milestone has been accepted (see the announcement guidelines).
  • I prefer the discussion of this application to take place in a private Element/Matrix channel. My username is: @_______:matrix.org (change the homeserver if you use a different one)

Thanks a lot for the application. However, at the moment, the milestones don't contain many details regarding the concrete deliverables, for example, what will be functionally implemented. Additionally, the deliverables 0a. to 0d. ideally should be part of each milestone, and we usually don't support the main deployment of a project via our grants program. Finally, how do you plan to bring RWAs on-chain? From our experience, the technical integration isn’t the biggest problem; it’s more about actually controlling the distribution of these assets.

Hi @Nico2, thank you again for the valuable feedback!

We have updated the HomeBase.md to address all your points:
✅ Expanded milestones with clear functional deliverables (blockchain, backend, frontend).
✅ Included documentation, testing, and CI/CD tasks in all milestones.
✅ Adjusted “Mainnet Launch” to “Mainnet Readiness” to align with grant scope.
✅ Added sections on Market Validation and Legal & Operational Flow to explain how we will bring RWAs on-chain, including custody, legal contracts, and pilot partnerships.

Please let me know if there are further adjustments or clarifications you’d like — we truly appreciate the review!

Thanks for the update. What about the license for the deliveries? See also the default deliveries of our template here: https://github.com/w3f/Grants-Program/blob/master/applications/application-template.md Do you have any additional information regarding partnerships that you can share?

Thank you for the detailed feedback. We've now incorporated all requested updates:

✅ License details now included in each milestone (Apache 2.0 / MIT)

✅ Default deliverables 0a–0d added for every milestone

✅ Partnerships and legal structuring context included

✅ Market validation, ecosystem fit, and frontend/backend links added

We've also polished formatting and elaborated on governance, XCM, and compliance infrastructure. Please let us know if there's anything else you'd like clarified.

Kind regards,

Hey @EmekaIwuagwu ,
thank you for the application. As @Noc2 already mentioned, the hardest part about a RWA project is the commitment for usage by RWA holders and market participants. Without these commitments we think that it will be unlikely to build a successful project. Therefore our internal discussion resulted in a decision to not go ahead with your grant proposal at this point in time.

Let us know if you have any questions. All the best for your future endeavors.

Dear Web3 Foundation Team,

Thank you sincerely for your insightful feedback on our Homebase application. We fully recognize that market commitment is the primary driver for successful RWA projects, beyond just technical innovation.

Your input has prompted us to prioritize market validation before pursuing further technical development. Here is our revised, action-oriented roadmap:

Immediate Market Validation (Next 30 Days):

Securing signed Letters of Intent with three property owners in Lagos and Belgrade, representing over $2.5M in properties, with a minimum $500K in committed assets as our reapplication target.

Finalizing legal partnerships with real estate law firms in Nigeria and Serbia, including escrow and custody agreements for pilot properties.

90-Day Milestone Plan:

Month 1: Market validation and asset commitments

Month 2: Legal framework completion and first property onboarding

Month 3: Launching a pilot with real assets—including deployment of a dedicated Testnet, enabling pilot transactions and technical validations with early adopters before moving on-chain.

We hope to reapply once we can demonstrate:

Confirmed property owners prepared for tokenization

Verified investor interest with capital commitments

Functional legal frameworks in multiple jurisdictions

Completed pilot transactions—initially manual or on a Testnet

Your guidance would be invaluable as we move forward. Specifically:

What metrics of market commitment are most compelling for your assessment?

Would successful pilot/testnet transactions, prior to full on-chain automation, suffice as proof of concept?

Are there RWA-focused RFPs planned that might align with our efforts?

We are grateful for your direction—it has sharpened our focus on genuine market adoption and stakeholder value. We will keep you informed of our progress and would welcome the opportunity to reapply once we achieve these milestones.

Thank you again for your time and consideration.

Best regards,
Emeka Iwuagwu

P.S. We are documenting this entire market validation journey publicly, aiming to provide a useful case study for others building RWA projects in the Polkadot ecosystem.
