Album Types
It is possible to categorise and filter albums by type
Meelo supports the following album types:
- Studio Recording
- What we would usually call Albums
- Live Recording
- Compilation
- Single
- EP
- A Single with many tracks or a mini-album
- Soundtrack
- Remix Album
- Mainly contain remixes of songs by a single artist. Too large to be a single or an EP.
- Video Album
- Contain video tracks
Meelo can automatically detect the type of albums based on their name.
The detection algorithm is quite naive and leverages commonly-used keyword. For example:
-
Live in Pariswould be detected as a Live album -
The Video Collectionwould be detected as a Video album -
The Singles CollectionandGreatest Hitswould be detected as Compilation albums -
Jump - Singlewould be detected as a Single -
Good Girl Gone Bad (The Remixes)would be detected as a Remix album -
Chaotic - EPwould be detected as an EP
You can find the code for the detection algorithm here.
If the algorithm fails to find relevant keywords, it sets the album as a Studio album.
In addition to the algorithm presented above, Meelo can external providers to resolve the type of an album. If (and only if) the algorithm identified the album as a Studio or Live album (see issue #1089), Meelo will use the external providers to verify the album's type (and set it accordingly).
Users with the admin role can manually set the type of an album.
To do so, open the album's context menu and tap 'Change Album Type'.
