The Archive Messages utility provides bulk-unpublishing of older messages based on a configurable timeframe. This is not deletion -- archiving preserves all data while removing content from public display. Archived messages can be restored at any time.
Components -> Proclaim -> Administration, then select the Archive tab.
Enter how far back to keep messages published (e.g., 6).
| Interval | Example (with "6") | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Years | 6 years | Archives published messages older than 6 years |
| Months | 6 months | Archives published messages older than 6 months |
| Days | 6 days | Archives published messages older than 6 days |
Only currently published messages with a study date older than the specified timeframe are affected. Already unpublished, archived, or trashed messages are unchanged.
- Go to Components -> Proclaim -> Messages
- Set the Status filter to Archived or Unpublished
- Select the messages to restore
- Click Actions -> Publish
- Improve performance by reducing active content
- Focus visitor attention on recent messages
- Seasonal content cleanup
- Preparing for site migrations
Component Options includes an archive_auto setting for scheduled automatic archiving.
- Create a backup first before archiving large numbers of messages. See Help-cwmbackup.
- Associated media files, teachers, and series links are preserved -- only the publishing state changes.
- Consider podcast feeds before archiving: archived messages will not appear in active feeds.
