Kickstart ROMs (BIOS)

Amiberry requires original Amiga Kickstart ROM images to function correctly. While a built-in AROS ROM is provided as a fallback, it has low compatibility.

Usage

Copy your Kickstart ROM files into the defined Kickstarts path (default: kickstarts/). Amiberry scans this directory recursively.

Important

WHDLoad Auto-Booter Requirements To use the WHDLoad Booter, you MUST have the specific Kickstart 1.3 and 3.1 images listed below. Amiberry uses these to create the necessary WHDLoad environment.

Essential ROMs

For maximum compatibility, we recommend the following set. The WHDLoad column indicates which files are strictly required for the auto-booter to work.

Model Version Common Filename CRC32 WHDLoad
A500 Kickstart v1.3 r34.5 kick34005.A500 c4f0f55f Required
A600 Kickstart v2.05 r37.350 kick37350.A600 43b0df7b Required
A1200 Kickstart v3.1 r40.68 kick40068.A1200 1483a091 Required
A500 Kickstart v1.2 r33.180 kick33180.A500 a6ce1636 Optional
A4000 Kickstart v3.1 r40.68 kick40068.A4000 d6bae334 Optional
CD32 Kickstart v3.1 r40.60 kick40060.CD32 1e62d4a5 Optional
CD32 Extended-ROM r40.60 ext40060.CD32 87746be2 Optional

Symlinks

Amiberry will automatically identify these ROMs by their CRC32 checksum, regardless of their filename. When using the WHDLoad Booter, it will create symlinks to these files with the names WHDLoad expects (e.g., kick34005.A500) inside the save-data/Kickstarts directory. You do not need to rename them manually.

Where to get them?

  • Amiga Forever: The easiest legal way to get all required ROMs. (Note: These are encrypted; you must run Amiga Forever once to get the decrypted .rom files).
  • Hyperion Entertainment: AmigaOS 3.1.4 / 3.2 Kickstarts are also supported.
  • Dump your own: You can extract the ROM from your physical Amiga using tools like transrom.
