Tropical Fish
Tropical Fish are a type of passive fish that comes in 2,700 colorful variants.
Tropical Fish spawn underwater in Oceans, in groups of 1-8⁽¹⁾. They can only spawn if any coral blocks are below them, making them common in coral reefs. They only spawn within 1 block above sea level (Y=63) and 12 blocks below sea level (Y=50).
When killed, adult tropical fish drop:
- 1 Clownfish
- 1–3 Exp when killed by a player or tamed wolf.
- 1 Bonemeal (5% chance)
When outside of water, tropical fish flop about randomly. After 20 seconds outside of water, they will begin to suffocate.
Tropical fish can be bred using any type of vanilla seeds.
Tropical fish come in many variants, with a combination of 2 shapes, 6 patterns, 15 colors⁽²⁾ for the body, and 15 colors⁽²⁾ for pattern. When spawning, 90% of tropical fish spawn within a set of 22 variants, while the rest are completely randomized. There are about 2,700 natural variants.
When in a bucket, the bucket name⁽²⁾ and tooltip⁽²⁾ will display the exact variant of tropical fish with a unique name. This name is constructed based on their colors, pattern, and shape, in the format of [body color]-[pattern color (if not same as body)] [Combo of pattern and shape]. This leads to combinations such as "Grey Kob", "Red-Green Blockfish", and "Light Blue-Purple Spotty".
Natural tropical fish never use the color black.⁽²⁾

- Originally, only Clownfish were actually planned to be made in the mod, with a model and unique texture made very early in the mods development. The rest of tropical fish were later added, because they are cool.
