Turtle Egg

SirSquidly edited this page Jul 29, 2023 · 4 revisions

A turtle egg is a block containing a cluster of 1-4 eggs, which hatch into baby turtle.

Obtaining

Breaking

Turtle eggs can only be obtained using Silk Touch enchanted tools. If mined without, nothing is dropped. The hatch stage is reset when mined.

Post-generation

After two turtles are bred using seagrass, one will travel back to their home beach, dig in the sand, and place 1-4 turtle eggs.

Usage

Turtle eggs can be placed atop most blocks, up to four per block. They do not require a support block, and are not affected by gravity.

Trampling⁽¹⁾

When any living entity stands atop or jumps on turtle eggs, there is a chance of one of the eggs breaking.

Zombie-type mobs (such as Zombies, Zombie Pigmen, Drowned, ect) will seek out and trample turtle eggs. They will only go to turtle eggs if there are 2 blocks of air above them, and it is within a 45x7x45 area. After reaching the egg, the zombie mob will jump repeatedly on the egg, trampling 1 egg⁽¹⁾ every ~4 seconds.

Turtles cannot trample or break turtle eggs.

Hatching

If turtle eggs are atop a sand block⁽²⁾, they will slowly hatch overtime. Hatching is displayed as visible cracks on the turtle eggs, and they will hatch after cracking 3 times.

Each random tick, there is a 1/500 chance of an egg cracking. During night, between 21600 and 22550 ticks in-game time (3:36 am and 4:33 am), each random tick is a guaranteed crack. This means eggs will crack far faster within this time.

When a crack occurs, all eggs in the block crack simultaneously.
